Cooking and Nutrition have been incredibly hot topics over the past couple of years. At the same time the rise in Cooking Television Shows has been exponential. This craze has resulted in a cooking channel! A channel devoted to a plethora of cooking shows! St. Patrick’s Day’s Recipes - Holy Cow! Now That Was Tasty!

Wednesday, September 3rd, 2008
Abhishek Agarwal asked:

All Irish people wait for St. Patrick’s Day as that is when you will find all the good Irish cooks preparing their favorite dishes. Well this is what happens in my family as all the women vie with one another to create the best dishes. If you are not Irish then you will not understand this but if you are then you will know what I mean. It is on St. Patrick’s Day that old the old grandmothers recipes which have been handed down traditionally from generation to generation is prepared and presented at the dining table. This is one day when age old traditions are remembered and followed.

If you are not lucky enough to have been born Irish and you do not have those traditional recipes handed down by your grandmother, there is certainly no cause to worry. All you need to do is to search the internet and you will find many websites that have these extraordinary recipes. You will also find that the measurements in the original recipes have been modified to American standards.

Surely this will bring out the smiles in many faces.

A great traditional recipe cooked on St. Patrick’s Day is corned beef and cabbage. This is an all time favorite among all Irish people. Other vegetables like potatoes and carrots are also added to this recipe in our house. This makes for an excellent meal because it can be cooked in a crock pot quite early in the morning. No effort is needed to cook this recipe and the dish is ready by dinner time. This is such a simple recipe that you need hardly put in any great effort and you can also be rest assured that you do not even miss a single parade on this day. Try being incognito for the day so that everybody thinks that you were busy cooking your meal.

Another great favorite is the lamb stew on this special day. You can find many varieties of this recipe if you search carefully on the internet. This recipe which is slow cooked on the crock pot is popular in climates that are cooler. This all time favorite dish can be had with Irish Soda Bread for either lunch or dinner.

Another great dish which is made during St. Patrick’s Day celebrations is the Shepherd’s pie. Most people who have tried this dish have simply loved it, which has made it a great favorite among all. Try it out and you will be surprised how your family loves it. Though you will come across many recipes on the internet it is recommended that you try out those which are simple to prepare.

Potatoes are another great favorite among Irish people and no table is found without having a single dish made out of it. Potatoes are considered an essential part of every Irish meal especially during St. Patrick’s Day which is typically an Irish festival.

The beverages that are drunk during this festival include Irish coffee and green beer. They are excellent drinks which should be avoided by those who are going to take the wheel after the festivities are over. For those who do not take to alcoholic beverages there are other non alcoholic beverages like milk shakes, smoothies etc. The color theme for St. Patrick’s Day is green so you can make any recipe which is green like a green smoothie, milk shake etc. Enjoying St. Patrick’s Day is more important than the green color theme or even the drinks. It is important that all you do is have fun. So, go green on St. Patrick’s Day and have all the fun that this celebration has to offer.
